One of my favorite portions of Scripture is 2 Corinthians 4:16-18. I love the way The Message version makes it comes alive to me. As you read this passage, do you find that you need to hear this message today? I know I do. I need to be reminded of this often. Because sometimes I feel like giving up, and sometimes it seems like things are falling apart.
I too quickly forget that there is so much more than meets the eye. I get caught up in the moment, the immediate and the temporary. I get narrow focused on a particular problem, behavior, or attitude that needs to be corrected or changed.
Today I need to be reminded about the inside. That’s where God is making new life. And not a day passes without God’s grace. His grace keeps giving, it never runs out, and the grace for today will be replaced tomorrow by the grace for tomorrow.
And the hard times and the things falling apart? They will seem so insignificant compared to the eternal things God has in store for us. The things we can’t necessarily see God doing—the work on the inside that will last forever.
So today we don’t give up. How could we?

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (The Message)
“So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”
God, I thank you for giving me this shift in perspective today. Help me see past the immediate and see what you are doing on the inside. Thank you for unfolding grace in my life.
