James 1:5 says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” I love this verse because it reminds me God wants to speak insight into my life. He wants to help me make decisions—even the little ones, too. The best part about it is I don’t annoy him by asking!
When reading this verse the other day, I remembered an unusual time God spoke some wisdom to me in my sleep! It wasn’t about a big thing, but it was something that really mattered to me. A few years ago, I was engaged and planning my wedding. I was working with a pretty tight budget so we were looking for creative ways to cut down the cost, while still having a nice wedding. My fiancé and I had already picked a location for our wedding but couldn’t find the right place for our reception. While sleeping one night, I woke up with the word “ptarmigan” stuck in my head. I didn’t even know what ptarmigan meant so I decided maybe the Lord wanted to tell me something.
The next day, I looked up “ptarmigan” on the Internet, and I discovered a country club of the same name only 15 minutes from our ceremony church. Located in a nearby city I rarely visited, I had no clue this country club even existed! After calling them and discussing pricing, my fiancé and I went to take a tour. It was a beautiful venue, and they were willing to work with our budget to create a great experience for our guests. What a gift from God! I may have never stumbled across that venue if the Lord had not spoken wisdom to me.
I try to remember this instance when I am looking for wisdom about a decision I need to make. He is generous, and he wants to give it to me.
